We offer advice on the selection and use of a company name. We can advise on whether your choice of company name is likely to infringe a registered trade mark. There are a number of sensitive words that you cannot use. We can advise which terms are not permitted as part of a company name and where to get permission to use certain terms in company names. We also assist in filing complaints at the UK Company Names Tribunal, which decides cases where a company name is registered for the main aim of preventing someone else with legitimate interest from registering it, or the aim of demanding payment to release it.

We offer advice on the registration of domain names, company names and the often complex relationship between these and registered and unregistered trade mark rights. Domain names are not the same as registered trade marks and do not give you the same rights. We can advise on whether your choice of a domain name is likely to infringe a registered trade mark. We can assist in domain name and company name disputes, including handling UK domain name disputes at Nominet and .com domain name disputes at WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation). We also offer a domain name monitoring service which alerts you when a third party applies to register a domain name which is similar to or includes your domain name or trade mark.
